Originally from Boise, Idaho, now living between Los Angeles and Atlanta, actor David Adam Flannery is fast becoming one of Idaho’s biggest breakout stars, starring in the smash hit movie about Tupac Shakur ‘All Eyez on Me’ in which he plays Tupac’s first sound engineer and in the Kathryn Bigelow directed, Annapurna pictures produced and distributed, feature ‘Detroit’ in which he plays one of Detroit’s finest.
“I act to inspire. I want to make you feel life all over again” is David’s motto.
It’s been quite the journey since David moved from Boise to Los Angeles. “I wouldn’t take it back for anything in the world” explained David. “It’s taught me about perseverance, culture and friendship. My favorite part about LA is the people you meet and the gifts you share. I'm not talking about merely the physical but the knowledge and ideas you bring to someone's mind. So that the next day when they wake up maybe they see the world a bit differently.”
David’s favorite roles to play usually involve love or characters seeking it.
“I find love to be the greatest thing on Earth. What else can make a person feel alive, confused, happy and sad all at the same time? I also like characters with a bit of a dark side since I don't get to share that part of my life often” he said.
While David’s role models are Paul Newman and Steve McQueen who weren't just "cool," but were inspired by being whom they were, David was actually inspired to become an actor by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger himself.
“When I was a kid, he gave me a spark, something I wanted to give to the world. That's why I do what I do. So that when someone steps out of a movie theatre they leave inspired. Inspired enough to make a change in their life. A change so small they go out and teach their son to play catch or with the person they're madly in love with, they finally get the courage to propose. It can be anything, I don't care, and I just want you to feel something. I want to take you away with my films” he stated.
“If I can shake you out of your mental blocks, then I'm doing my job. I truly feel there is passion in everyone, a desire to do more than what is conventional and secure. If one movie can make a child see the logic of following their dreams; then the performer has achieved his justice. I act to experience all walks of life and to show everyone that the opportunity to live is everywhere.”
David’s hobbies include running and writing poetry in his spare time.
